How This Blog Began

This blog started as a result of me quitting social media. I had some really great moments on social media. I was able to connect with some amazing people that I otherwise never would have met. I shared so much of my life and learned so many new and random things from social media.

But…I also had some rough moments.

I felt angry after spending time on social media. I felt jealous of other people. I looked at my stomach and wondered why it wasn’t as skinny as those other girl’s stomachs. And, while I used my platform for encouragement and inspiration, I wasn’t always encouraged by what other people posted.

The idea of getting off of social media ran through my head regularly, but I had so many excuses…

-I DID actually connect with people on there
-I was inspiring others…that’s noble, right?
-I wasn’t spending THAT much time on it (4-6 hours a week)

I really wrestled with myself. And not just for a couple days, or a couple weeks. It was months.

And then, one day, while listening to Jean M. Twenge’s book, “10 Rules For Raising Kids In A High-Tech World”, it just hit me. I realized that my excuses didn’t matter. I was wasting my life on social media. I wanted to have kids one day and if I expected them to be relatively screen free, I had to set a good example, right? How was I supposed to set a good example if I was staring at Instagram every day? I realized that, in order for me to live a really meaningful and rich life with my future family someday, I’d have to give up social media. I wouldn’t be able to be present with my family while Instagram loomed in the background, luring me into its glow.

So, what did I do with my excuse of staying on social media so that I could inspire people? I realized that I could just start a blog for that. My excuse for connecting with others? I could get the phone numbers of the people I wanted to stay connected with. And besides, if I had to see a social media post to see that a friend was moving out of state or that they had gotten married, that wasn’t a true, deep friend, right? They weren’t REALLY in my life at that point if I was finding out from a post.

And so, here I am. Writing this blog in an attempt to encourage and inspire others. I am passionate about spreading love and joy everywhere that I go. I am passionate about making the best of life and finding the sparkles and beauty in the everyday moments. This blog is dedicated to sharing uplifting thoughts and encouraging words. This is a place where adventure, bravery, curiosity and intentionality is celebrated. Here, I believe that every day holds the potential for new inspiration and growth. No matter how much you messed up yesterday, TODAY is a new beginning.

I’m so excited to go on this journey of life with you.

About Me:

I realized that I SHOULD spend some time telling you about myself…

  • I love Jesus so much.
  • I am married to my high school sweetheart and we live in our dream home – a 1907 mansion.
  • I am very goal oriented and am constantly working on myself to grow and learn new things.
  • I believe that you can overcome any fear and that you can accomplish practically anything if you dedicate time and energy to it.
  • I love to read and listen to books (classic and self-help are my favorite genres).
  • I LOVE colors and sparkles.
  • In my free time, you can find me spending time with other people, hosting parties, thrifting, singing with my women’s chorus, taking LONG walks, traveling the world and goal planning.
  • My purpose in life is this: To love others the way that I am loved by Jesus; endlessly and passionately.
